Northwest Sustainable Energy for Economic Development (Northwest SEED) is currently recruiting new board members.  It is an exciting time for the organization with new leadership in place and expanding program work.  Recently, we approved the organization’s first strategic plan that will direct the work of the organization over the next three years.  In our strategic plan, we identified the need for 3 additional board members to join the organization by 2009.  We are now seeking passionate and committed people who are interested in transforming the way we power our future.

Mission: Founded in early 2001, Northwest SEED works to establish a clean, diverse, and affordable Northwest energy system, based on efficient use of renewable resources, with maximum local control and ownership of energy assets.


Values and Beliefs: Northwest SEED prioritizes work that most closely aligns with our mission and vision—clean energy projects that:


  • Stimulate local economic development
  • Decrease our dependence on fossil fuels
  • Increase self-reliance for every individual in the community
  • Ensure community buy-in and ownership of clean energy sources

  • Serve as a model for clean energy development throughout the country and the world

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend quarterly board meetings in Seattle that are two hours in duration, usually from 4-6pm.
  • Serve on at least one committee and actively participate in meetings of the committee.  Committees usually meet on a monthly or bimonthly basis.
  • Provide organizational direction and assist in oversight of organization policies and programs. 
  • Work to achieve the goals and mission of Northwest SEED.
  • Actively participate in governance decision making but avoid operational management which falls under the purview of the Executive Director.
  • Contribute time and a small financial contribution (more details upon request).
  • Serve as “Ambassadors” of Northwest SEED to the public and to Northwest SEED’s members.  In this role, board members have the responsibility to promote the image and visibility of Northwest SEED in their community, communicating pride and commitment toward Northwest SEED. 
  • To be fiscally responsible for the organization.  It is the duty of each Board member to be familiar with the organization’s budget, monitor progress toward meeting the budget and take an active role in planning the subsequent budget, including exercising prudence in the control and transfer of funds.
