Salary: $49,000 - $56,000 (DOE) for full-time, exempt position. Annual increases based upon satisfactory performance.

Organization Summary:

The Market Foundation works to preserve the diversity and traditions of the Pike Place Market community by raising $1 million annually to support: 1) the operation of services in the Market which benefit downtown Seattle’s nearly 10,000 low-income and senior residents, including the Market’s Clinic, Senior Center, Child Care & Preschool, Food Bank, two programs providing fresh produce to low-income and senior residents, and two housing service programs; 2) start-up of new human service programs and low-income housing in the Market neighborhood; 3) public improvements within the Market historical district; and 4) Market historic preservation projects. Position Summary:

This position is responsible for coordinating the Foundation’s annual giving campaign, event sponsorship, and our major gift efforts (individual donors contributing $1,000 or more/year). Additional activities during 2008-09 include grant writing to raise $1.8 million for the capital expansion of the Market’s Preschool.

 

The Market will also have a $75 million levy on the Nov. 4, 2008 Seattle ballot. The Market Foundation will be donating services to assist the campaign, including assistance with campaign fundraising.

 

Position Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Work with Foundation director and board members to identify potential sponsors and future major donors (annual contributors of $1,000 or more).
  • Develop and coordinate the annual campaign for individual gifts. This includes renewal request letters, applications and presentations at workplaces (for payroll deduction campaigns), and an annual holiday appeal.
  • Work with director and board to coordinate major and planned giving efforts, including stewardship activities.
  • Work with the Event Coordinator to identify potential event sponsors and implement sponsor recruitment plan. Annual events currently include a luncheon (March), Street Festival (June, www.pikeplacemarketstreetfestival.com), the Sunset Supper outdoor banquet (August) and a downtown home tour (Sept.).
  • Assist director to research potential corporate and foundation supporters. Write grants and proposals as needed for human service operations and for Preschool capital needs ($1.8M).
  • Assist other staff members with tours, events, database management as needed. Ability to work occasional weekends and give walking tours of the Market and human services is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Desirable Work Experience:

  • Minimum five years fund development experience required, including experience managing direct mail and major gift programs. Some corporate sales experience may qualify.
  • Successful grant writing and corporate sponsorship experience preferred.
  • Experience volunteering for a non-profit organization required; experience supervising volunteers and staffing committees preferred.
  • Experience working in a role of responsibility on a political campaign preferred.
  • Computer literacy, including word processing, spreadsheet and data base management. Familiarity with Raisers Edge preferred.
  • Demonstrated accomplishments in meeting specific fundraising goals.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent oral and written skills.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

This position requires good vision and hearing for computer and telephone work. The offices are not wheelchair accessible. It is preferred that applicant is able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
