Originally founded in 1989 as The Benefit Gang, Seattle Works is a volunteer, service, and civic organization that focuses on the unique needs of an emerging generation. Through an exciting array of volunteer opportunities, leadership trainings, and civic engagement programs, Seattle Works strives to build a thriving community of actively engaged individuals.

From the beginning our energetic volunteer teams and inventive programs have been recognized for their impact on the community. Seattle Works was nominated for the Presidential Points of Light Award in 1992, and honored with a community service award from the Municipal League of King County in 1996, the History Makers in Community Service Award from the Museum of History and Industry in 1997, the YMCA of Greater Seattle's AK Guy Award in 2002, Seattle Parks & Recreation's Denny Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service in 2005, and the Municipal League of King County's Organization of the Year Award in 2009.

We are currently seeking an Executive Director who will provide new leadership and vision in fulfilling Seattle Works' mission. Our legacy is rooted in the idea that people are ready to step up as active community participants early in their careers and adult lives. The Executive Director is responsible for effectively leading the organization towards its strategic direction, as it seeks to connect volunteers, develop emerging leaders, and inspire dialogue in the community.

Responsibilities

Every year, Seattle Works volunteers donate over 25,000 volunteer service hours to multiple charitable organizations throughout the greater Seattle area and beyond. Our organization also helps develop new community leaders, by providing training in volunteer project management and non-profit and government board service. In addition, Seattle Works provides opportunities for direct civic engagement with local community, business, and government leaders. The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of Seattle Works and reports directly to the Board of Directors.

The Executive Director will, with the participation of the staff and Board of Directors, make the primary operational decisions for Seattle Works and is responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission and programmatic and financial objectives. The Executive Director will develop and implement an annual plan for the organization, including new initiatives and short and long-term programming.

Personnel Management

- The Executive Director is responsible for the management and professional development of a team of approximately 5-8 staff members, including volunteers. He/she will be charged with maintaining a positive work environment which fosters Seattle Works' philosophy of respect and collaboration.

Finance and Development

- Seattle Works has an annual operating budget of approximately $500,000. The Executive Director has ultimate responsibility for achieving revenue goals and expenditure projections.
- He/she will work closely with the Board Treasurer to report fiscal performance to the Board.
- He/she will identify new revenue sources, create new strategies for maximizing current revenue sources, and provide leadership on cultivating and soliciting contributions from institutional, individual and corporate donors.

Community Outreach and Engagement

- As the chief executive officer of Seattle Works, the Executive Director is responsible of being the face and voice of the organization to the rest of the community. He/she represents Seattle Works in all dealings with other organizations, individuals and the public.

- He/she charged with identifying opportunities and building strategic relationships between teams or organizations to help achieve organizational goals.

- He/she is ultimately accountable for publicizing activities of the organization and maintaining positive relationships with key stakeholders.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be an active and engaged individual who believes deeply in our organization's mission and who displays a proven record of achievement in challenging situations. Successful candidates will possess:

- Bachelor's degree in public administration, business, non-profit management, or a related field;
- A minimum of five years or more of professional work experience, preferably with nonprofit organization experience;
- At least two years in a leadership role, preferably as an Executive Director or similar position;
- Proven staff management, administrative, budget planning skills;
- Significant fundraising, grant writing, or fund development experience;
- The ability to engage and build relationships with key stakeholders at all levels of the community, and interact with diverse constituencies;
- Excellent project management, organizational and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail within the context of the larger strategic goals;
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills;
- The ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
- Willingness to learn and seek consistent feedback to continually improve performance;
- Strong sense of personal responsibility and accountability for delivering high quality work
