The University of Washington's UW World Series is one of Seattle's leading presenters of touring performing arts.  Each year the UWWS presents four subscription series: the President’s Piano Series, the International Chamber Music Series, the World Music and Theater Series, and the UW World Dance Series.  These series have in excess of 3500 subscribers and attract a total audience of over 45,000 through over 40 performances and 100+ Community Connections education programs annually.   The UW World Series has an average annual budget of $1.7 million with ticket revenues contributing over $1 million per year.   

We currently have an outstanding opportunity for a Director of Development at the UW World Series, housed in the renowned Meany Hall for the Performing Arts.  This key position provides leadership and day-to-day management of an integrated fundraising program for the University of Washington’s acclaimed professional performing arts series. The Director of Development reports to the Director of the UW World Series and supervises a professional Development staff of two. Core Responsibilities:

Fundraising and Board Relations
•     Develop and implement a strategic development plan to reach ambitious annual fundraising goals for the UW World Series.
•     Work with Director to develop funding priorities and to implement programs needed to sustain annual support. 
•     Manage a portfolio of donors and prospective donors with a focus on those with potential of $2,500 or more annually. 
•     Identify prospective major gift donors ($25,000+) and build a pool of 25 prospects, with associated cultivation/solicitation strategies, working in conjunction with University’s prospect management and tracking system.”  
•     Prepare written proposals, informational materials, endowment agreements, and other materials needed to secure major gifts for current and future projects.
•     Act as main liaison between Advisory Board and staff. Lead the Board’s involvement in fundraising strategies and committee participation.
•      Create and implement an integrated plan for the identification, cultivation and recruitment of volunteers who will serve on the Advisory Boards and Board committees.

Community and University Relations
•     Work closely with the University’s Director of Advancement for Arts & Humanities, and collaborate with the broader UW Arts Advancement Team, ensuring that the UWWS’ development efforts are fully integrated with the University’s overall campaign strategies.”
•     Develop talking points for the Director and other University officials for community events and meetings that promote UW World Series.
•     Supervise the department’s gift recording, reporting, and acknowledgment systems for all gifts to the UWWS, including foundation, corporate, government and in-kind.
•     Actively participate with Marketing and Education departments in efforts to increase audience diversification and development.

Budgetary, Personnel Management
•     Supervise the work of Individual and Institutional Giving Officers.
•     Develop and manage department budget and operating plan to facilitate objectives and year-to-year growth.
•     Annually develop the department’s strategic plan, initiatives, and appropriate timetables that demonstrate guaranteed success in fundraising and community outreach objectives.
•     Develop and oversee the implementation of the UW World Series annual giving programs, evaluating progress toward fund objectives including efforts involving direct-mail, solicitations, telemarketing and personal solicitations and events.
•     Annually oversee 40 special events; conceptualize and execute new events.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in a variety of fundraising activities that includes a talent for major and planned gift fundraising, donor stewardship, community relations, board relations, supervisory experience,  and budget management. Competitive candidates will have excellent verbal, written and public presentation skills. Inherent to success in this position is a dedication to, and belief in, the value of the performing arts.  A strong candidate will also be a highly motivated, team-oriented player with a good sense of humor.

Requirements:

•     Bachelor's degree and five years minimum experience in development;
•     5+ years experience in managing and leading teams with increasing responsibility;
•     Proven success in major gift fundraising with individual and institutional donors;
•     Ability to work independently as well as demonstration of being a proactive and collaborative team player with diverse groups and personalities;
•     Experience working with and managing a Board;
•     Excellent strategic thinking skills;
•     Project and event management experience;
•     Excellent database and computer skills.   

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Desired:

•     Experience working for an arts organization;
•     Experience with Tessitura ticketing and donor database system.
