Volunteers are needed to help restore critical Cedar River habitat. Below are three volunteer opportunities to help restore Cedar River natural areas. You will have a good time and a great sense of environmental accomplishment if you volunteer in one or all three events. Please help me spread the word about these events if you cannot help thanks. Contact Sarah Waller, Volunteer Coordinator with the Friends of the Cedar River Watershed for more information. Sarah's contact information is listed below.
February 23 9 AM to 1 PM
Wetland Restoration in Renton/Maple Valley Help remove weed fabric from a tree planting project that is reaching maturity. We'll enjoy the
mud-rich pleasures of early spring and learn about wetlands from a watershed ecologist.
March 1 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM
Wetland Restoration at Taylor Creek in Maple Valley Come help us restore
wetland habitat in Maple Valley! Our efforts will contribute to an important, multi-year project to reconnect Taylor Creek with its
historic floodplain and restore wildlife habitat in this 9-acre wetland. Volunteers will work in small teams lead by members of Washington
State Conservation Corps to identify and pull invasive Scotch Broom and remove weed fabric from previous plantings.
March 22 10 AM to 2 PM
Habitat Restoration at Cavanaugh Pond in Maple Valley Celebrate World
Water Day! Join us and REI for a day of streamside habitat restoration at Cavanaugh Pond. This area is home to a beavers, spawning salmon,
and birds, but due to its infestation of blackberries and other invasive weeds, it is struggling to remain viable habitat. We’ll clear
invasive weeds and spread fabric to prepare this site for a fall tree-planting project.
