NWAC Seeks New Board of Directors Candidates for 2018

The Northwest Avalanche Center (NWAC) serves an important role seeking to save lives and reduce the impact of avalanches through avalanche forecasting and education in our region. The Center works as a collaboration between a professional team of forecasters, non-profit staff and a network of contributors and volunteers. We are seeking new volunteer board members with specific skill sets to continue to evolve and enhance that mission.

The demands on regional avalanche education and outreach are changing with the growing population and changing demographics of our region. NWAC serves a broad audience of recreational, and professional users, and specifically is focused on outreach and education for backcountry skiers, backcountry snowboarders, snowmobilers, alpine climbers, and snowshoers.

The NWAC Board of Directors currently has three vacancies. We are seeking to select from a pool of interested candidates based selection on advanced professional skills to provide strategic advisory support:

  • Non-profit Fundraising (Development) leader
  • Chief Financial Officer (CFO) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) skillset
  • Attorney – with litigation experience

Board members need to bring insights, energy and enthusiasm for the work of NWAC and represent the interests of the winter backcountry community. NWAC is committed to creating an inclusive and diverse board. NWAC board members are volunteers who serve three-year terms and are expected to participate in regularly scheduled board and committee meetings, provide counsel to NWAC staff broadly and in their areas of expertise, participate in some events, and make NWAC a significant part of their individual philanthropy. Candidates who are interested in exploring whether their skills and interests align with NWACs are invited to make an initial expression of interest.
