Executive Director

An exciting opportunity in Central Washington with the Yakima Humane Society has arisen. We are looking for a seasoned, passionate, innovative Executive Director to lead the continued growth of the organization, as we work tirelessly to ensure the humane treatment of animals in our community. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall operational management of the Yakima Humane Society in supporting its mission, goals, objectives, strategic plans and development, while serving as its spokesperson within the community. A successful track record of strong innovative and inclusive leadership, which will facilitate open communication to harmonize staff, the Board and the other constituents with whom he/she will interface, is sought.

Founded in 1904, the Yakima Humane Society (YHS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the care and adoption of homeless animals. YHS advocates for education and public service to encourage the compassionate treatment of animals and to prevent their suffering and neglect. A voice for companion animals that are completely dependent on people for their care, YHS promotes the belief that animals are entitled to both our respect and our protection.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for oversight of YHS, which includes administration of all programs and services of the organization. The Executive Director works with the board on shortand-long-term planning. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the oversight of the YHS, which includes administration of all programs and services. The Executive Director will develop and oversee a current budget of $1.7M, and an investment portfolio of $100,000; as well as plan for significant growth of both the budget and portfolio in the next three years. Additionally, the Executive Director is responsible for the strategic processes of the organization, managing and developing a talented paid staff of 30 and more than 115 volunteers. Currently, the direct reports for the Executive Director are the Clinic Director, Director of Operations, and Communication & Marketing Director.

The Executive Director will assist the Board in the execution of the current strategic plan and the development of strategic directions and policy in the fulfillment of the agency’s mission. This individual is responsible for the overall management and operation of the YHS in compliance with Board-adopted policies and with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations and laws. The Executive Director provides a leadership role in initiating and maintaining community relationships and securing the operating and investment funds necessary to sustain current and future operations.
